He has long been engaged in research on efficient utilization technologies of wood, bamboo, crop straw and waste wood materials, and environmental-friendly wood-based composite materials. In the past 10 years, he has presided over more than 20 projects including the National "863" Program, "973" Program, major science and technology support projects, major 948 innovation projects, National Key R&D Programs of the "13th Five-Year Plan" and "14th Five-Year Plan", with research funds of 200 million yuan. He has innovated the applied basic theories and methods for the preparation of reconstituted materials, broken through key technologies for preparing high-performance reconstituted materials, constructed a technology and standard system for reconstituted materials, developed a series of products and technologies represented by bamboo steel, wood steel and formaldehyde-free reconstituted materials, promoted the transformation and upgrading of China's wood-based panel industry to high-performance reconstituted materials, and led China to take a leading position in the field of reconstituted materials internationally.
